LUL: Notice of further strike action as talks continue

18 August 2015

Talks between the trades unions and LU management continued at ACAS yesterday, and will take place throughout this week in an effort to make progress. Compared with previous meetings, some momentum picked up in the dispute talks held at ACAS last week, resulting in the general view that we were finally making progress.

ACAS Talks: one step forward, two steps back...

This is of course fundamentally down to the strength of TSSA members who have continued to remain strong and stood shoulder to shoulder with our sister unions, RMT, ASLEF and Unite on the second 24 hour strike which took place on 5/6 August.

The turnout on picket lines for the last strike was exceptional, showing the strength of feeling amongst all union members in this difficult dispute.  The level of solidarity and great turnout by members continues to send a strong message to London Underground and speaks volumes in our fight to get LU management to actively listen to our concerns.

Nonetheless, a resolution to this dispute is yet to be achieved and there is still a lot of ground to be covered in trying to find a fair deal for staff in order to avert any further strike action.

A way forward at ACAS: structure of talks

To facilitate the progress made last week, the trades unions proposed a framework to help structure the talks and to help define the issues which sit a the heart of our dispute. The framework proposed is built upon three main areas:

a) FftFS

b) Night Tube

c) 2015 Pay & Conditions of Service

Work-life balance continues to be a major concern to everyone following sample rosters circulated for FftFS and Night Tube, and it will form a key part of the discussions in each of the three areas of talks outlined above.

Notice of further strike action

Whilst some progress was made at ACAS last week, talks held on Monday were slow and it feels like we may even have taken a step backwards.  On that basis, TSSA today served London Underground with formal notice of our intention to take 24 hour strike action, starting at 18.30 on Tuesday 25 August, and further 24 hour strike action, starting at 18.30 on Thursday 27 August.

TSSA is committed to continued talks at ACAS and is seeking to reach a suitable agreement. However, until such time as a settlement is achieved, further strike action is necessary in accordance with our ballot mandate.  We must continue to stay strong in our campaign to defend working practices and terms and conditions, and to maintain the work-life balance and rates of pay that our hard working members deserve.

TSSA LU Reps Meeting - Thursday, 20 August

TSSA LU Reps are meeting on Thursday, 20 August to be updated on the latest outcomes of talks held at ACAS and to discuss future industrial action. Contact your reps for feedback and updates from this meeting.

Keep up the overtime ban

The action short of strike is ongong and members are reminded that they should not work any overtime, additional hours or extended shifts until further notice is given.

United we stand and we will not be divided!
