May Must Go & Labour Must Park Brexit

12 March 2019

Responding to the Government's massive defeat on the Prime Minister's proposed Brexit deal tonight, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has called for an extension to Article 50, and for a General Election to allow the UK to move on.

Manuel Cortes said:

"Theresa May has taken the Tory government to another historic defeat tonight. Her deal is dead. Her ability to deliver any Brexit at all is in tatters. She has no authority to negotiate for her party, for parliament nor for the country. She has wheeled. She has dealed. And she has lost.

"An extension to Article 50 is now a matter of priority. May has run out of road but Britain needs to give herself enough track on which to make this last minute emergency Brexit stop.

“And with May defeated and Corbyn quite rightly calling for a General Election, time now for Labour to pledge to leave the Brexit brakes jammed firmly on. With Brexit parked, a Labour government can begin to move Britain on."
