Mayor of London calls for TfL to take over failing franchise

12 July 2016

The "shambolic" Southern Railway should be handed over to Transport for London to restore services, the TSSA said today.

Backing a call by London Mayor Sadiq Khan to take over the failing franchise, Manuel Cortes, union general secretary, said:

"TfL are already doing an excellent job in running the overground services throughout the capital and they should now be given the opportunity to end the misery now being inflicted on Southern passengers on a daily basis.

"This franchise is now turning into a basket case with hundreds of trains now axed from the timetable. A new publicly owned service with new powers for the Mayor to direct those services would transform the daily commute.

"Ministers must act without delay and hand the keys to the London Mayor."
