24 September 2012

The TSSA along with the ICTU and other unions within the C.I.E group of companies met with Minister Leo Varadkar and Junior Minister Alan Kelly.

Below is a brief summary of the discussions:

• The Iarnród Éireann cost containment agreement will be honoured
• Constraints on government funding for C.I.E may see the national pension reserve fund be used as sourcing for a loan going forward. This would be under a certain criteria
• Banks have indicated that future lending of money will be based on the C.I.E presenting robust business plans.
• The NTA have presented it report on route contracts to the department. This report will be forwarded to the cabinet subcommittee. Once this has been concluded the content of the report should be then available.
• It was proposed that constructive engagement is required with unions in advance of any decisions on contracts for bus services post 2014.
