Mitsui buy 40% stake in Abellio

17 January 2017

TSSA responds to news that Japanese company the Mitsui have bought a 40% stake in the Dutch company Abellio's Greater Anglia franchise.

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said;

"Theresa May is supposed to be talking clean-breaks with Europe today. Ditching a little bit of Dutch ownership of the Greater Anglia rail franchise is hardly a clean break and is just opening the door for someone else to make a quick buck from our passengers and taxpayers. The Japanese are here because there is money to be made out of our rail industry. The clean-break British rail passengers need is to take back control of our train operating companies so that profits made here are invested in lowering fares and developing rail infrastructure here."
