More problems with Southern

21 October 2016

Responding to the Evening Standard's discovery that from today GTR Southern's scheduled service will run without 33 Gatwick Express services a day until 12 December because of leaves on the line and both both Gatwick Express and Southern services will from today have up to three mins added to journey times because of leaf fall.

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said:

“What do Southern's bosses put in their tea? This is pure Alice in Wonderland stuff – fewer trains and longer journey times to improve service.

"And it's yet another piece of make-believe spin from Southern's imperious, out-of-touch management who've blamed sick staff for the delays, now they blame leaves and before we know it they'll be telling passengers to eat cake!

"They never take ownership of the problems they cause so no wonder passengers are now shouting "Off with their heads!"

"This pathetic excuse for the cancellation of another 33 Gatwick Services a day really must be the last straw for the Mad Hatters in the Dft who simply cannot keep avoiding the fact that Southern is so seriously mired in breaches of contract that they must take it back into direct public control by Christmas!"
