Meeting with Minister of Transport

12 July 2017

TSSA along with the other trade unions meet with Minister for Transport Shane Ross this week.

On the back of the Bus Eireann dispute we had requested a meeting to discuss our concerns for the direction of public transport in Ireland.

We stressed that we were concerned that the current funding model for the CIE group of companies was not fit for the delivery of a proper public transport system.

The last number of years of cutting subvention cut and attacking of workers terms and conditions is not sustainable going forward and will only lead to a continuing cycle of industrial strife in the CIE group of companies. We also raised our concerns on the threats of privatisation and the negative impact it would have for both workers in the industry and the travelling public.

We welcomed the positive nature of the meeting and the commitment from the minister that we will establish a transport forum before the end of the year for all stakeholders to deal with issues concerning the future of public transport.

We hope the transport forum will provide the opportunity for a genuine and meaningful discussion on delivering a sustainable and socially responsible transport system for all.
