Network Rail: Campaigning for fair pay

7 June 2011

As you will know, the TSSA's elected reps meet last Thursday and voted to convene a ballot for industrial action over Bands 1 - 4 pay. This is an unusual step by TSSA, as we do not fit the media stereotype of a union that calls industrial action as a 'knee jerk' response.

As you will know, the TSSA’s elected reps meet last Thursday and voted to convene a ballot for industrial action over Bands 1 – 4 pay. This is an unusual step by TSSA, as we do not fit the media stereotype of a union that calls industrial action as a ‘knee jerk’ response.

However after three years when our Bands 1 – 4 members have received an increase in the pay pot which is approximately half of that received by operational grades, (and with operational grades guaranteed RPI plus 0.5% next year) there comes a time when we have to say, enough is enough.

What do you think?

We have prepared a new survey on the decision to ballot, please complete it: online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TSSAmembers

A last chance for negotiations

Before commencing a ballot for industrial action, the reps have chosen to give Network Rail another opportunity to meet with us, and have asked Gerry Doherty, the TSSA General Secretary to write to David Higgins asking for further talks.

We believe that if there is good will, then a negotiated resolution can be found. However, we are very clear that if there is no movement, then we will be holding a ballot for industrial action.

How you can help

There will no doubt be a lot of ‘misinformation’ over the coming weeks. We have asked our reps to keep members informed through local newsletters, emails and meetings. However, we do not have reps in every workplace. If you have not had a local workplace meeting and are prepared to help organise one, we can arrange a speaker (email organising@tssa.org.uk for more information).

You can also help by:

  • Spreading the message that the TSSA campaign for a fair pay rise continues despite of the company’s assertion that talks are over.
  • Taking leaflets and circulars into your workplace to distribute
  • Encouraging non-members to join.

Our pay survey demonstrated something that we already knew; there are hundreds of non-TSSA members who are equally concerned about winning a fair pay settlement. You can help by telling your colleagues that they should join TSSA (they can join online at: http://www.tssa.org.uk/en/join-us/index.cfm)

Campaign resources

Thank you

If we are to achieve our objectives of winning a fair pay award this year and a fair pay structure going forward we will need your continued support. We will continue to strive for a negotiated resolution, but if that fails, we will rely on you to bring Network Rail back to the negotiating table.

Your support to date has been amazing: thank you.

Please don’t forget to complete our latest survey online. This is your union and your pay. To represent you effectively, we need to know your views:
