Network Rail eleventh hour letter confirms no Pensions changes without our members' agreement!

12 November 2015

Just in time for our noon deadline on 10 November, Network Rail's HR Director has written to our General Secretary to confirm that their pensions scheme proposals will not go ahead without the agreement of our union.

After over 2,200 of you voted in our online referendum, with nearly 90% voting to reject the company proposals and ask for a ballot for strike action unless they were withdrawn, Network Rail have agreed to meet union leaders to discuss a way forward.

Power of veto

The company's letter explains that, while our sister unions accepted the company's proposals, thesewill not and cannot be implemented without our union's express agreement. On this basis, we will not be commencing the process of balloting members for industrial action as the proposals are effectively withdrawn.

Stay Prepared!

Network Rail have stated that they still intend to offset their additional National Insurance contribution costs. A high level meeting is being arranged between the company and Trade Unions to explore options. We still need to be prepared for action so please check that your membership records are accurate and up to date so that we are ready to ballot if necessary.

The information we hold is only as accurate as the information you give us.
