NOTG Meeting with Sadiq

19 January 2018

Sadiq will seek to assist Carillion workers in TfL and join us to lead the fight for restoration of the TfL subsidy.

London LU & TfL lead organiser Mel Taylor and I met with Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan this week where we raised our concerns about the collapse of Carillon who also have several contracts with TfL and asked Sadiq to bring the staff in house. He is currently looking into look into this and has outsourced contracts will be reviewed before renewal with a view to bringing them, were possible, back into TfL.

TfL Transformation was of course also on the agenda, and particularly our concerns about the Engineering, Major Projects and Health and Safety proposals. We are now awaiting a date for a  meeting with Val Shawcross, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport; Mike Brown, London’s Transport Commissioner and senior directors to discuss our concerns regarding the proposed new structures, safety and attempt to improve TfL's lack of meaningful engagement with us.

The massive job cuts at TfL are being driven by the withdrawal of £750 million per year of government funding. London will become the first capital city in Europe, if not the world, to run a public system without a central  government operating grant. Sadiq gets it and has agreed to our request to in response to head up a public campaign against these funding cuts, and in support of full and adequate funding for transport in London. The campaign will launch in early February, so watch this space…
