Now he's not Chancellor, Osborne calls for more rail infrastructure

22 August 2017

Responding to George Osborne's call today for High Speed Northern Rail Infrastructure, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said:

"Nice to see former chancellor rallying for rail. It's a shame he never put his money where his mouth is in any one of the seven years he was Chancellor.

"But even stopped clocks are right twice a day. And he's right to attack Theresa May and Chris Grayling for failing the North when they abandoned the electrification plan to speed up connectivity between the great towns and cities from Newcastle to Liverpool, Swansea to Hull and all those in between.

"Roll on a Labour government who are pledged to fast track and expand all of Britain's rail services so the country's economy and  infrastructure will finally begin meet the needs of the 21st century so no region of our country is left behind."
