After consulting members on the threat of outsourcing of the Salary and Pensions Department in the CIÉ holding company the TSSA along with SIPTU have written to the company to inform them that we find the proposal to outsource as totally unacceptable. We do not see any benefit either financially or in service provided. Indeed we view the proposal as more ideologically driven than anything else. We have informed the company that we would look to ballot our members for industrial action if attempts are made to outsource.

If we allow outsourcing to occur we believe it will only be the beginning and nobody’s jobs will then be safe. The outsourcing experience tends to be start in a small area and gradually chip away at other areas and before you know it everything is gone! How long before the other companies outside the holding company jump on the outsourcing bandwagon?

The dedicated and hardworking staff of the Salary and Pensions Department deserve better. They provide a knowledgeable and efficient service for staff within the CIÉ group as well as the many retired staff on a pension. The Salary and Pensions Department staffs have a real understanding of the CIÉ group and its entire staff that allows it to deliver information to members in a genuine and personal level. If outsourced you will be faced with a large faceless corporation that is only motivated by profit to deal with your queries on pensions. Outsourcing impacts all members within the CIÉ group. We cannot afford to allow this to happen and all TSSA members should support your colleagues in the Salary and Pensions Department.

We will update members on any further developments on this issue.
