Peace Talks in Equal Pay Row at Network Rail

18 August 2011

Top level peace talks at Network Rail have averted the threat of any disruption at mainline stations over next week's Bank Holiday weekend.

TSSA leader Gerry Doherty will meet chief executive David Higgins to discuss an equal pay audit among managerial staff after 3,000 union members voted in favour of industrial action short of an all out strike in a secret ballot.

The two leaders will meet next Thursday to agree a way forward in a long running dispute over a union survey which revealed that female managers were being paid as much as £4,000 a year less than male colleagues in the same grades.

Mr Doherty said:"We are now hopeful of establishing a full and proper audit which will show the real extent of this problem and, more importantly, a procedure for tackling it in the future."

TSSA members voted 3 to 1 in favour of action short of a strike, 75.9% in favour, 24.1% against, and 3 to 2 against a strike, 41.9% in favour with 58.1% against.
