Pensions Campaign

21 April 2011

TSSA is launching a campaign to defend the pension arrangements for employees of Bombardier Transportation UK Ltd (BTUK) in partnership with the other recognised trade unions.

The company has refused to listen to representations made by the trade unions so far, and the unions are now considering their next moves, which may include industrial action.

A copy of the joint union campaign leaflet has been sent out to all BTUK members. They should contact the TSSA Members’ Helpdesk should they require more copies.

The unions will be organising workplace meetings to discuss the current position, and what to do about it, and all members are asked to take part in those discussions.

TSSA has a small number of reps in BTUK. Many members are on personal contracts that mean they are outside of the collective bargaining arrangements, and therefore have no rep. TSSA urgently seeks volunteers to act as workplace contacts and assist in the campaign. Any member wanting to get more involved should contact the TSSA Members’ Helpdesk (free from land lines) on 0800 328 2673.

TSSA National Organiser Steve Coe said “if the company proposed to cut members’ pay, there would be an angry reaction. This is no different. Pensions are deferred pay, TSSA members understand that, and I am sure that they will not stand by and allow the company to get away with jeopardising their futures.”
