Rail weekend travel disruption threat

1 September 2014

Key rail managers are threatening to disrupt weekend travel across the network, the TSSA said today.

Over 2,000 managers will stage a three week ban on weekend working from this Friday in a pay row over a below inflation pay offer.
"It is expected that this action will have a significant impact on weekend engineering work being carried out over the next three weeks," said union leader Manuel Cortes in a message to union members at NR.
The managers, who also run the 19 largests across the UK, from Waterloo in London up through Birmingham to Glasgow, are upset they have been offered a below inflation pay offer whilst the staff they manage all got a rise in line with inflation, 3.1%.
The TSSA leader warned the action would be stepped up further unless NR management agree to serious talks by September 22.
* Apart from all mainlines in London, NR manages stations at Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, Leeds, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly
