Report into poor service performance confirm what we already know

10 January 2018

Responding to the National Audit Office (NAO) report which has today concluded that high levels of disruption for passengers mean that, to date, the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern rail franchise has not delivered value for money.

Said TSSA leader, Manuel Cortes,

”Following on from Andrew Adonis’s revelations that the Tory bail out of the East Coast Mainline is a public rip off, today’s claims from the NAO about Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern confirm what passengers already know - that their is something rotten in the Department of Transport. The Secretary I’d State responsible is failing in his job every day. He should have been booted in the reshuffle. As long as he’s in charge the whiff of bad governance becomes a stench and our rail industry, our passengers and our country continue to be let down by May and her cronies."

NAO found that between 2014-2017, passengers on the franchise experienced the worst service performance on the national rail network. Since Govia Thameslink Railway Ltd started operating the full franchise in July 2015, around 146,000 services (7.7% of planned services) have either been cancelled or have been delayed by over 30 minutes, compared to 2.8% on the rest of the network.
