'Road to Nowhere' Budget has Britain on wrong transport route

30 October 2018

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has described yesterday's Budget as a 'road to nowhere' which 'utterly fails' to take transport seriously.

Phillip Hammond’s Budget statement in the Commons set out plans for a £30bn boost to England’s roads, including repairs to motorways and potholes, totally overshadowing announcements for the railways.

Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, said: “Here we have a Chancellor who has virtually nothing to say about a vital service like the railways and is instead focussed on roads.

“This is wrongheaded and short sighted. It shows again that the Conservatives have utterly failed the public and that they simply do not understand transport.

“Everywhere we turn there’s failure on the railways under Chris Grayling and yesterday Hammond did nothing more than produce a road to nowhere Budget.

“The Tories are failing to take transport seriously and therefore at the same time failing to take the economy seriously”.
