Scottish Trades Union Congress 2011

3 November 2010

The 2011 STUC Congress will be held over the period Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 April 2011 at Ayr Racecourse.

Based upon existing numbers of members within the TSSA Scotland Divisional Council Area, the Association is entitled to send up to six delegates to next year’s Congress. Two seats are allocated to the General Secretary (or his nominated representative) and the Scottish Executive Committee member, Margaret Anslow, leaving four nominees from Scottish Branches, two of whom must be women.

Nominations are, therefore, invited from Scottish Branches. Nomination forms (circulated to members) should reach this office no later than Monday 17th January 2011. Provision is made on the form for the written acceptance of the candidate(s) and this should be completed where possible. Where this is not possible the written acceptance of the nomination should be received in this office no later than the closing date for receipt of nominations.

In accordance with Rule 44(f), I can confirm that the Manuel Cortes our Assistant General Secretary, Margaret Anslow, Executive Committee member for Scotland, Tom Kennedy, TSSA Senior Regional Organiser and Lesley Simpson, Edinburgh TOCs, represented the Association at the 2010 STUC Congress.

It should be made clear to nominees that such acceptance implies that if elected as a TSSA delegate, he/she will act in line with Association policy, i.e. in accordance with Annual Conference decisions or, in the absence of such decisions, in accordance with the decisions of the Executive Committee or, in the last resort, and in the absence of guidance from the Executive Committee, in accordance with the judgement of the delegates as to Association policy. In this latter respect, delegates will be able to call on the advice of the Executive Committee appointee. TSSA will meet the cost of loss of pay incurred by lay delegates. We will also meet any reasonable childcare costs and overnight accommodation costs necessarily incurred.
