Solidarity with PCS members

25 July 2012

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes has commented on the news that PCS have cancelled their proposed 24-hour strike in response to an offer from the Home Office.

"It is good news for workers and the travelling public that this strike is no longer necessary. No one wants to see disruption during the Olympics, but workers cannot concede to mass job losses and attacks on their pay and conditions at this time or any other.

"It is very welcome that the Government has seen sense and will create 1100 new posts in passport offices and in the over-stretched Border Agency. The fact that it took the threat of strike action by PCS members to make this happen shows that concerted action by workers to defend their rights is one of the few ways to inject sanity in to Government decision-making.

"I congratulate PCS members for their efforts and hope this is a good sign that the Home Office will now negotiate on their other grievances in good faith over the coming months."
