South West Trains 2014 Pay Award Referendum

9 January 2015

TSSA to engage in a referendum of our SWT members in regard to the offer for the 2014 pay award received from South West Trains.

The offer is as follows:

· Option 1 - 2.1% Increase in salaries from the first Monday in October 2014, or a minimum increase of £450 onto basic salaries whichever is the greater, RPI or 0.25% increase, whichever is the greatest from the first Monday in October 2015.

· Option 2 - 2.3% Increase in salaries from the first Monday in October 2014, RPI or 0.25% increase, whichever is the greatest from the first Monday in October 2015.

TSSA believes that this offer is below our expectation of Retail Price Index (RPI) for August 2014, which is our traditional marker, of 2.4%. South West Trains have stated that this is the maximum they can afford against their financial obligations for 2014-15 as per their franchise agreement. TSSA believes our members should not have to carry the burden of franchise agreements that SWT have made with the Department for Transport and we have seen our members receive below inflation increases in SWT over the past few pay awards.

However, before TSSA decides on whether to accept this offer, or decline it, we would like to hold a referendum of members. The referendum will need to be returned before the 28th January 2015.
