Southeastern: Direct Award and General News

17 October 2014

TSSA and your Company Council reps met with Southeastern where they informed us that the Direct Award of the franchise was to start on 12th October 2014.

Direct Award Contract

The details of the Direct Award were outlined in my previous Circular No. 108. The company reassured the trade unions that the detail of the Direct Award franchise were as communicated by the Department for Transport (DfT) at our meeting with them. The Direct Award will run to June 2018 with a possible extension to January 2019.

TSSA reiterated its policy for all the rail franchises to be publically owned. The company gave an assurance that there were no proposals to change ticket office times, there was to be an increase in the number of gated stations and a policy to fill all gate line vacancies. There was also a commitment given to increase revenue and reduce ticketless travel, boost off-peak travel, value added tickets and advance fares. They also stated that there were no proposals to review the level of employees in the support and administration roles.

Rail Operating Centres

Southeastern are considering what their preferences are for the Kent route in regard to allocating to a route based Rail Operating Centre. However, London Bridge area signalling will be moved to Three Bridges.

RPMI Pension

There will be a small increase in your pension contribution from 1st July 2015 by 0.02% to 9%. TSSA believes that this will be for the benefit of the fund in the long-term.
