Southern: Control move to Three Bridges Conclusion of Consultation

22 November 2012

Following a series of meetings the consultation on the reorganisation and move to Three Bridges came to a conclusion. At those meetings the staff representatives achieved some positive changes and agreements on the future organisation.

Move to Three Bridges

The TSSA requested that travelling time be paid on the difference between going from home to the old and new locations. Southern would not agree to this totally but agreed to look at each individual case where extra travelling was in excess of 30 minutes each way. The TSSA welcomed this concession which is outside the employees’ terms and conditions. It was agreed that the walking time from Three Bridges to the ROC would be ten minutes. Southern clarified that the walking route would have new lighting, be covered by CCTV, and have the road resurfaced. The TSSA emphasised that there will still be concerns over staff using this access at certain times of the day and we have requested that it be risk assessed when the work on the route is completed.

Southern agreed they would look at rostering around train times for ease of getting to work. It has also been agreed that employees can use First Capital Connect services to Three Bridges. The facilities will include 150 car park spaces, cycle racks, a gym, and a locker for each employee.

The building will provide a larger work area than the current work place. It is planned to work around a main central desk, beside it there will be POD’s for Metro and Sussex area with Network Rail and Southern employees sitting beside each other and, it’s hoped, working together. The CCTV reorganisation will be offset from the POD’s.

Getting it right

It has been agreed that there will be site visits available for employees and representatives from late January 2013 and that the employees can nominate a rep to go to monthly progress meetings on the site. The TSSA will be monitoring the progress of this move and we will be ensuring that our members are not disadvantaged as a result.

In the meantime we are keen to identify potential TSSA reps to assist with monitoring the move and ensuring agreements are implemented. If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please contact us via email here, or call on 0207 529 8003.
