Southern Railway Additional Payments during the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games

31 May 2012

After a series of meetings held with Southern recently to deal with additional payments for the Olympic and Paralympic games period, the TSSA received a final offer from the Company. Following discussions with our Company Council reps it is considered that acceptance or rejection of the offer should be determined by a referendum of relevant TSSA members.

Southern first offered a set amount of £100 for the whole period plus payment for change of shifts, which was rejected, to an improved offer of £37.50 per week for an eight week period plus payment for change of shifts.

Southern have now put forward the following offer:

1. The amount of £37.50 per week to be paid to all employees who attend for work during the period week commencing 22 July 2012 to week commencing 9 September 2012, a period of eight weeks.

2. An additional payment of £28 per shift for working a Rest Day and an unrostered Sunday. To be paid to a member of staff working at a different location (this only applies to GPR’s if they work out of their area) and a member of staff whose normal shift time is changed from what is shown on the agreed roster.

3. Revenue Protection Officers, Rail Neighbourhood Officers and Service Engineers travelling and working additional late night train services specified in the Olympic Service Delivery Plan and members of staff whose diagram have been especially designated to these trains, will receive £50.

4. Trial period of retired employees who have completed 10 years’ service and are taking their pension to retain their Southern travel pass.

5. A six month trial period from 30 September 2012 to suspend the Service Delivery Deduction, if the levels of sickness drop from the current level a permanent removal to be negotiated with the TSSA in April 2013.

The weekly payment will not be paid for those who have annual leave, sickness or are absent during this period. The shift payments are subject to the requirement of the Olympic Service Delivery Plan.

Following discussions with our Company Council reps it is considered that acceptance or rejection of the offer should be determined by a referendum of relevant TSSA members. We are certain that it is the company’s final offer and we believe a good offer.

Therefore TSSA members in the relevant grades will receive a referendum paper to vote on whjether to accept or reject the offer. This needs to be returned to TSSA Walkden House 10 Melton Street London NW1 2EJ to be received no later than Monday 18th June 2012.
