Southern Reorganisations throughout company

The TSSA has been involved in numerous consultations for departments within Southern.

 

At present there has been reorganisational review of the Control, Chief Engineers Department, Corporate Relations, EQUIP, Fleet Planning & Performance, HR Business Systems, Organisational Leadership Behavioural Development Team, Revenue Protection Support, Retail Development Team, and Roster & Support Clerks. As you can see this has been a review virtually across the whole organisation.

The result has been a reduction of 31 positions from the Band B, C, and D grades, so far, there are more consultations to come. The TSSA has attended all the consultations and we have with the help of our members raised the arguments on why these cuts should not be made. During the discussions it has been quite clear that in most reorganisations there is not a reduction of work but this is a pure cost cutting exercise. The result is that individuals are losing their jobs and those remaining in their respective organisations will have to pick up the work of the jobs that are cut. Despite our competent points raised on behalf the employees the representatives of Southern were adamant their proposals were correct. What the TSSA has been able to do is support our individual members through the process, identify suitable vacancies for displaced staff, and ensure that a fair process is in place for the selection of displaced individuals.
