Southern: Revenue & Prosecution Team Reorganisation

23 September 2014

TSSA and employees from the Revenue & Prosecution Team recently met with Southern to consult on the proposed reorganisation.

The proposal is to move the work of the Prosecution Team to RPSS Portsmouth, which is run by Southeastern, as part of what Go-Ahead group call “Better Together”. This would centralise the administration work of the Prosecution Department with that of London Midland and Southeastern. Southern stated that their decision had been influenced by the loss of the existing Assistant Prosecutor and the difficulty in replacing that role in the near future. TSSA questioned whether this was simply a cost cutting measure and a sign of things to come under the new franchise in 2015. Southern responded that they do not know who will carry out this work following the start of the new franchise in July 2015 and this measure was a short term fix until the new franchise starts.

TSSA reiterated its concern over the two employees that are going to be displaced as a result of this proposal and pointed out to management that there would be residual work remaining with Southern which they acknowledged. However, Southern assured TSSA that no one will be made redundant as a result of this proposal and that there are vacancies within their department that could resolve any displacements. They accept that there is residual work and assured us that they will make strenuous efforts to find alternative work for those concerned.

TSSA welcomed that there were no redundancies as a result of this proposal, but I assure members that we will be very wary of any future proposal to cut costs under the name of “Better Together”. Any member seeking advice on this matter should contact me on
