"Stop the dither and speculation" on HS2 says TSSA

20 January 2020

TSSA is today (Monday) calling for an end to the "dither and speculation" over HS2, following the publication of a draft government report by the Financial Times which recommends the project goes ahead.

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes, whose rail union represents thousands of engineers and rail workers, points to environmental, economic and productivity arguments for cracking on with the vital infrastructure project.

Manuel Cortes, TSSA General Secretary, said: “The dithering and speculation over HS2 needs to stop.

“This vital infrastructure project is overdue and both business and communities are suffering in its absence. Investment in rail through HS2 will boost jobs and productivity and, importantly, it will make a major contribution to shifting freight and passenger travel from road to rail and cut the UK’s carbon emissions.

“The North of England has spent too long as the poor relation of transport investment. HS2 must go ahead and be built through to Scotland. It’s time we brought our railways into the 21st century with confidence and pride.”
