Welcoming the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB)s initiative to tackle fatigue on the railway with new guidance
TSSA’s Organising Director for Health and Safety, Steve Coe said:
"TSSA cautiously welcomes this initiative. There is no doubt, tackling the extent to which rail staff suffer fatigue will improve the health of our members, as well as improving safety overall. Excessive working hours and workloads, widespread shifts, night and on-call working and extensive time spent travelling to work sites means reducing fatigue will be a major challenge for all parties - employers, unions and staff.
“And it will only be successfully tackled if the necessary money is found to increase staffing levels and costs and changes introduced have the consent and support of the staff affected."
