Thomas Cook closure

16 January 2014

TSSA strongly regrets Thomas Cook's decision to end all operations run out of Ireland.

The decision to close its Dublin office comes on the back of the firm ceasing their retail operations in Ireland, whose staff we organised by TSSA, in 2009. TSSA warned at the time that this was the beginning of the end for Thomas Cook in Ireland. Sadly, this prediction has now been fulfilled.

Manuel Cortes, General Secretary of TSSA said, "Sadly, the chickens have come home to roost. We warned about how short-sighted Thomas Cook's decision to close its retail operations in Dublin in 2009 was. We rightly predicted that this would eventually lead to them having to pull out of Ireland. I just hope that they deal with those affected by this announcement in far better way than they did with our members whose treatment was frankly disgraceful."
