Thomas Cook Job Losses Down To Bad Brexit

22 March 2019

Responding to news that over 300 jobs are to be lost at Thomas Cook and shops on the high street to close, General Secretary of transport union, TSSA Manuel Cortes said:

"This is a devastating blow to all those involved. We are seeking urgent talks with the company and will be doing all we can to ensure the best deals possible for our members at Thomas Cook.

“The company is reported as saying a sharp fall in holiday bookings has created the need for it to reappraise its business model. Make no mistake the uncertainty caused by Brexit is the underlying cause.

“Theresa May's Brexiting has wrought huge damage in the transport and travel industry. Of course people weren't going to book holidays if they didn't know they would be able to leave the country or get back.

"Unless Theresa May now does the right thing by Britain and revokes Article 50 I'm afraid sad news of job losses like these at Thomas Cook and those lost already in the car industry are just the tip of the Brexit ice-berg.

“For everyone's peace of mind and job security, Brexit must be stopped now.”
