Ticket machines are too confusing says ORR report

3 June 2016

TSSA welcomes the ORR report which found too much confusing jargon is used at station ticket office machines and suggests passengers use the staff available to purchase the cheapest tickets.

Manuel Cortes, leader of the TSSA rail union, said:

"The rail regulator must now look at the range of tickets that is on offer as well. We get far too many complaints that passengers cannot find the cheapest ticket when they are dealing with machines.

"Are the operators guiding them to the more expensive ticket by restricting choice? This is what we want the regulator to look at. Delaying the sale of off peak tickets does not help in that situation.

"Machines should be made much more user friendly, particularly for people using rail cards."
