Transport Minister Humza Yousaf considers TSSA proposals but threat of May Cup final rail strike remains

18 April 2018

High level talks between TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes and Scottish Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf took place this afternoon with the TSSA's threat of a rail strike hitting the Scottish Cup Final in May at the top of both their agendas.

Following the meeting, which lasted well over an hour, Cortes said:

"We have just had a very productive meeting with Humza Yousaf with very constructive discussion about how to break the deadlock in our dispute with Scotrail over the depleted CCTV staffing levels, the imposition of a night shift on our members who have never worked nights previously and whose family lives cannot sustain such a change to their working hours.

"I have put forward a range of options which can help bring this dispute to a close and Humza has asked for time to consider them. I'm happy for him to do so and I hope to hear back from him in the next 24 hours."

TSSA also secured the support of the Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) at Aviemore today when our emergency motion requesting trades union solidarity, for our overwhelming ballot for strike action at ScotRail over the axing of CCTV staff, won unanimous backing.
