TSSA condemns Hypocrisy of Boris and London Tories

22 May 2013

Commenting on today’s attack on transport workers and their trade unions by the Mayor and London Assembly Tories, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes condemned the hypocrisy of Boris Johnson and his privileged assembly members.

“It comes as no surprise that the day after Boris’s character and fitness for high office come under public scrutiny that he seeks to divert attention from his private life by playing the same old broken record about the need for a 50% threshold for ballots for tube workers, whilst also encouraging his ambassadors of privilege on the London Assembly to re-start their rant about the so called gold plated pensions enjoyed by TfL workers.

“The hypocrisy of these people knows no bounds.

“Boris was first elected promising talks with the rail unions and a no strike agreement. Since then all the unions have had is five years of silence and political posturing.

“In addition, it does Tory Assembly members, many of who have enjoyed lives of privilege, no credit whatsoever to repeatedly try to undermine the pensions security of hard working transport workers who continue to serve London with dedication. That this latest rant is coming from Gareth Bacon, a professional politician who enjoys generous expenses alongside earnings from multiple jobs only adds to the hypocrisy.”
