TSSA condemns stop-skipping increases on ScotRail

18 April 2019

TSSA today condemned Abellio ScotRail for breaking promises to passengers after it emerged that stop-skipping numbers had doubled since October last year.

Manuel Cortes said, “I’m disappointed but not surprised to see ScotRail break another promise to passengers.

“Abellio promised in March 2018 to ban stop skipping. Now we find that in the last four months the number of trains that’ve skipped stops in order to make up time has doubled!

“This just proves what every Scottish commuter knows. Despite billions of pounds of public subsidy Abellio have still not fixed the root cause of ScotRail’s train delays.

“That’s because the biggest problem on Scotland’s railways is the broken franchise system itself. Whilst a private company runs the rail network to make a profit for their shareholders we will continue to see delays, cancellations and crowded trains. And with Abellio desperate to hang onto the franchise, and desperate to improve their punctuality figures, I predict we will be seeing more stop-skipping in the future.”
