TSSA Dares Taoiseach and Transport Minister to Meet Bus Eireann Families

29 March 2017

TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes is daring Taoiseach Enda Kenny and his Transport Minister Shane Ross to meet the families of striking Bus Eireann workers who will be protesting outside the Dáil today.

Says Cortes, "I’ve been with my members on picket lines across Ireland since Monday. In Dublin. Cork, Limerick and Tralee, wherever I’ve been the determination is strong but the unnecessary anxiety being caused to workers and their families by their own government is outrageous. This strike has been provoked by the Enda Kenny and Shane Ross's ideological commitment to deregulation and privatisation. If Bus Eireann was a private company we would already be around the negotiating table as their shareholders would never have allowed them to wilfully engage in action which is detrimental to the company's future.

"However, here we have Bus Eireann’s only shareholder, the Government, conspicuous by their absence. I dare Kenny and Ross to bear the responsibility of office and face the protesting workers, their families and the public outside the Dáil tomorrow and get a taste of the misery they are causing. I dare them to show their faces before the people whose livelihoods they are hurting, however I'm not holding my breath."
