TSSA defend right to Freedom of Movement at Labour Party conference tonight

24 September 2017

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes will host a rally calling for an end to exploitation of workers not their free moment between the European Economic Area and Britain and vice versa tonight.

Cortes will be joined on the platform by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan and Irish Labour Leader, Brenda Howlin, UCU General Secretary, Sally Hunt, BFAWU President, Ian Hodson, Tulip Siddiq MP, Alison McGovern MP, Rupa Huq MP, Geraint Davies MP, Unison Policy Advisor, Narmada Thiranagama, Richard Corbett MEP, Lucy Anderson MEP and journalist Maya Goodfellow.

The broad panel of labour movement speakers reflects the strength of feeling to protect workers’ rights against a Tory Brexit across the Labour moment.

TSSA leader Manuel Cortes said:"Only hardcore Brexiters want to stop the right of British workers to live and work in Europe and prevent our economy from continuing to attract the workers our health, care, education, food, agriculture and tourism sectors so badly need.

“TSSA policy favoured remain and has long campaigned against Brexit restrictions on workers rights - including their right of freedom of movement.

“In the midst of Tory Brexit chaos where even Theresa May now admits that staying in Europe longer via a transitional stage is better than crashing out in 2020 chaos, this rally characterises the voice of reason with our labour movement."

The rally will be co-hosted by online Labour news website, LabourList, will be held in The Grand Hotel, 97 King's Road, Brighton at 9pm on Sunday (Sept, 24).
