TSSA Lead ECRO Dispute

Over two years ago we discovered company plans to close every existing electrical control room. By entering into a dispute unions forced the company to change their position significantly.

This led to a commitment to major concessions and joint working.

Since then, the company have recognised that they need your cooperation to design a fit for purpose SCADA system and training and mentoring program before the ROCs can be operational. However, they’ve failed to make a decent offer to compensate you for your efforts since all unions rejected a one grade uplift back in June last year.

Our position

TSSA reps remain committed to the joint union position agreed unanimously by representatives of all three unions at the 1 October joint meeting; we need an improved offer before participating in talks about the move to ROCs, ECRO training and mentoring and the SCADA system (letter available online:

Reps from all unions (TSSA, RMT and Unite) accepted management’s invitation to a meeting in November, expecting to receive an improved offer to enable us to commence joint working.

No offer!

As our December email to TSSA ECRO members set out, during this meeting management announced that no improved offer was on the table. We adjourned and agreed that all three unions would be in dispute and unable to participate in furtherdiscussions unless the company position changed and they make us an improved offer.

On hearing our position, the company indicated that an improved offer would be made.

Instead, we received this letter:

TSSA reps are clear that the company’s position in no way constitutes an improved offer. Therefore we cannot accept their invitation to arrange another meeting under their terms.

What can you do?

Now is the time to consider industrial action.

If you don’t have a TSSA rep or contact in your control room, now is the time. Nominate a colleague or ask your colleagues to nominate you to be a TSSA rep. Speak to the Members’ Helpdesk for details.

When we do receive an improved offer we will put this to TSSA ECRO reps to consider before participating in any further discussions around mentoring, SCADA system arrangements and other matters essential to move ECROs to the ROCs.
