TSSA Learning: Aprender Español en (Learning Spanish at) Amey, Crawley

25 April 2013

Wednesday 1st May will see the successful conclusion of the first ever TSSA Learning course at the Crawley Amey hub; described as fun and very interesting by course attendees.

Paul Messenger, Amey Lead Union Learning Rep, conducted a Learning Survey amongst Amey employees at the company’s hubs at Gatwick, Chelmsford and Birmingham - and Spanish was identified as a key popular subject. The 10 week lunchtime Beginners Spanish course was therefore organised by Paul, through Aspire Sussex Limited and with support from TSSA’s ‘London South East & Sussex’ and ‘Gatwick’ branches.

The course itself covered some basic greetings and essential holiday phrases, including directions, weather, food, shopping and your nationality etc.  The one hour sessions comprised of interactive speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises with quizzes & games as well as slides & videos.

“I’ve found the course very interesting, covering good and helpful material”, said TSSA member, and Amey Consulting Assistant Engineer, Keweisha Hussey.  “The course delivery overall has been good. I would like to do a Stage/Level 2 Spanish course, if possible!”

The Aspire Sussex Course Tutor, Claire Marsden, commented: “The Spanish for Beginners course has proved a huge success. All the learners demonstrate great enthusiasm and a willingness to learn; they are always focussed in the lessons, frequently asking questions …. At the same time, we have a lot of fun and enjoyment; have made new friends and built cooperative working relationships with colleagues.”

Amey Lead Union Learning Rep, Paul Messenger, added: “The course has been a tremendous success and I propose to run computer and further language classes very soon - details to follow.”
