TSSA May day thanks to Sadiq

1 May 2018

Responding to news that London Mayor Sadiq Khan has, in his May Day message to London's workers, has explained the many benefits of becoming a union member and why he is in a union.

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said:

"This is great news. Sadiq is right to promote union membership as a force for good. Statutory holidays, holiday and sick pay, regulated hours, equal pay, equality and diversity in the workplace - and society at large - health and safety at work protections are all a lasting testament to the presence of trade union membership in workplaces.

"After eight years of Tory rule in City Hall under Boris and his long and boring union bashing agenda, London's public sector workplaces are not as equal as they should be. It is great to see Sadiq grasping this nettle and driving an agenda which will close the inequality gap and drive change for the better and make a happier, safer London for workers at all levels who keep are city moving.

"TSSA will of course be encouraging all Transport for London staff from office workers to senior managers to join our union and help us help us build a beacon workplace for workers across Britain and beyond. We thank Sadiq for working with us to achieve this and look forward to working with him and his City Hall team to continue to reverse years of Tory decline."
