TSSA respond to news of continued CrossRail funding

24 July 2018

Welcoming the news of extra investment funds being found to ensure that Crossrail can be completed, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said.

"As the current timetable and overcrowding crisis on our rail network shows rail is vital to the economic health of our nation. Without it workers simply can't get to work. Good rail networks do require investment on a major scale which is why it's good news for both the long term good of passengers and the economy of the south east that Crossrail will get the investment it needs.

"But the North, the Midlands, the South West, Wales, Scotland all need equivalent funding to deliver the regeneration that they need. Yet Transport Minister, Failing Chris Grayling has presided over draconian cuts in funding to electrification upgrading and other expansion programmes across the UK which means he will be remembered as a digital age minister who tried to keep rail in the steam age. Britain needs better than this Tory dinosaur."
