TSSA Sign MTR Crossrail Recognition Agreement

16 July 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has said he is "delighted" to have entered into a union recognition agreement with MTR Crossrail (the operators of the new Elizabeth line) which covers management grade staff.

The Elizabeth line, linking London east to west by train – and beyond as far as Reading in the west and Shenfield in the east - will increase rail capacity across the capital by ten percent.

Once completed – the Elizabeth line will be fully integrated into the Transport for London (TfL) network providing a fast and frequent service with new stations integrated into existing Underground, Overground and DLR stations.

Commenting, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said “I’m delighted that our union has now signed this agreement with a key partner for the future of 21st Century rail services in London.

“We are talking about union recognition for dozens of senior people - management grade staff - which means that now almost every person working for MTR Crossrail will be covered by collective bargaining.

"It’s great to see that under our London Labour Mayor, Sadiq Khan, another key part of the TfL network now recognises our union for senior staff.

“I really look forward to welcoming them into our TSSA family.

“Not only is this a good deal for those in management grades, it’s good for MTR Crossrail and for Londoners who will soon be using their trains.

“There’s little doubt these train links, when fully functioning, will help power the local economy and grow jobs across the South East well beyond the rail sector.”
