Responding to news that Scotland's Parliament have late this afternoon voted 66-44 to break up British Transport Police(BTP) and merge BTP officers and staff in Scotland into Police Scotland, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said:

"Party politics have been placed above the national interest in the Scottish Parliament today, rail passenger safety and efficiency jeopardised and a fine British Transport Police is about to be annihilated.  Our members whose every day work supporting BTP is dedicated to keep passengers safe and trains running are feeling very betrayed by this vote. I will be talking to them to see what steps they would like to take next. "
