TSSA Statement On Thomas Cook Brexit Warning

16 May 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has said low-paid workers are paying the price for Tory-Brexit after travel firm Thomas Cook warned of "further headwinds" for the rest of the year after reporting a £1.5bn loss for the first half of the year.

Thomas Cook said there was "now little doubt" that Brexit had caused customers to delay their summer holiday plans.

Manuel Cortes said: "It's terrible that low-paid workers are now paying the price for a Toff-inspired Brexit.

“We are extremely concerned about the fact that many of our members are now facing losing their jobs. Our union is seeking an urgent meeting with the Company to safe as many jobs as possible.

“It can't be lost on ordinary people that posh boy and former stockbroker Nigel Farage created this mess aided and abetted by Tory Toffs. I hope voters reject May and Farage on May 23rd and in the Peterborough by-election on the 6th of June.”
