TSSA thank members for keeping London moving whilst under increasing strain.

13 November 2015

TSSA leader Manuel Cortes has responded to news of record passenger numbers using London's public transport.

He said: "I'd like to pay tribute to our members in London for the magnificent part they play every day in transporting ever growing numbers of passengers around London with such skill, humour and dedication to public service and passenger safety.

"TfL's fare box will be bursting at the seams, yet Boris continues to impose year-on-year fare increases.

"Sadly, we have now learned that in his ongoing audition for PM, he has agreed that TfL's £700 million operating grant will go by the end of the decade. This will win him plaudits among Tory backbenches whilst Londoners pay a heavy price. Boris's latest betrayal of our great city will see fares continuing to rise.

"These numbers today also show the truth of union warnings that increasing passenger numbers are placing passengers and workers under increasing and worrying strain.

"As I said earlier in the week, the closure of ticket offices is now causing dangerous levels of overcrowding in tube stations.

“I call again on Boris - and his wannabe Mr Goldsmith  - to commit to talking to union leaders who are, as ever, keen to get reassurances that passenger safety will not compromised as their numbers grow.”
