TSSA warns of strike action from next Thursday at Bus Eireann

10 January 2013

TSSA members will strike at Bus Eireann from next Thursday if peace talks at the Labour Court break down tomorrow.

The union's Irish organiser Jim Kavanagh wrote to BE management this afternoon saying the strike would begin from midnight next Wednesday unless the threat to introduce new working conditions from this Sunday is withdrawn.

The TSSA, along with other transport unions, has agreed to accept an invitation from the Labour Court to attend talks in Dublin tomorrow.

But they will argue for the management's plans for new working conditions from this Sunday should be withdrawn to allow full talks to proceed.

"We will not negotiate with a gun to our head," said Mr Kavanagh. "We want proper discussions about the company's future without an arbitrary deadline being imposed by management."
