TSSA welcomes inflation cap on rail fares

5 December 2013

Manuel Cortes, leader of the TSSA rail union, said: "We are pleased that the Chancellor has at last recognised the cost of living crisis being faced by millions of rail passengers who were originally facing fare hikes of RPI plus 3 per cent this January, a 6.1 per cent increase.

"A rise of 3.1 per cent will be welcomed, even it means the Coalition have still increased fares by almost 20 per cent since June 2010. Now we want to see an end to annual fare hikes altogether with a freeze in 2015.
"He is running scared from Labour's cost of living campaign which has already produced tangible results for passengers and energy users."
