TSSA Welcomes Jeremy Corbyn Statement On Brexit

19 June 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed Jeremy Corbyn's statement after the Shadow Cabinet meeting backing a public vote on any Brexit deal.

The Labour leader said he also wants to hear the views of members and trade union leaders as part of Labour's evolving Brexit policy.

Manuel Cortes said: “The prospect of a public vote on Brexit is now just around the corner. It's good to see Jeremy fighting for the British people to sign off any Brexit deal - this is the right and democratic way to deal with this issue. Of course, he is also committed to do whatever it takes to stop no-deal Brexit.

“Jeremy’s statement is a very welcome development and I look forward to having further discussions on Brexit with him next week.

“However, let us not forget the biggest division in our country is not between those who voted Leave and Remain but between the many and the few. Only a Labour government will ensure no one is left behind by erasing the huge imbalance in wealth and power in our country.

“That is why rather than having a bunch of Tories parading around TV studios in the quest to see who can be the most obnoxious right wing git of the lot – we need a general election so that the British people can decide who is our next Prime Minister.”
