TSSA Welcomes Mayor Move to Save London Overground Ticket Offices

18 April 2019

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, has welcomed news the Mayor of London has stepped in to save London Overground ticket offices that were threatened with closure last year.

Responding to plans to improve London Overground stations and keep ticket offices open announced by Sadiq Khan and Transport for London, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said:

“I’m delighted our fight to keep staffed ticket offices on the Overground has ended well.

“It’s not just trades unions who were in this fight; the people of London were at the heart of overturning the proposal to take away ticket office staff. Thousands upon thousands of them added their voices to ours asking the mayor to intervene to get Arriva Trains London and TfL to rescind ticket office closures.

“It’s good that ticket offices will remain open and staffed with no change of hours at the busiest stations. We will want to hear more detail about office opening hours at stations across the network in due course.

“There has been a clear mandate from London’s Overground passengers that they want, value and respect staffed stations. We want Sadiq to build on that mandate and now pledge to restore staff and ticket offices across the Overground and Underground networks.”
