TSSA welcomes new Deputy Mayor for Transport

8 May 2018

Wholeheartedly welcoming Heidi Alexander to her new post as Deputy Mayor for Transport in Sadiq Khan's team.

TSSA's General Secretary Manuel Cortes said:

“Our union is really looking forward to working with Heidi Alexander as she moves to City Hall. Together with our members and other London transport workers, she will continue the work begun by Val Shawcross to deliver Labour’s promise of a great public transport future for the many.

“Heidi will now have our full support as she leads the campaign against George Osborne's abolition of the Transport for London's operating grant. An act of vandalism which has removed the solid foundations which secured safe, reliable transport in London. Our great metropolis is the only major city in the world not to get a subsidy to run public transport services. The costs are borne by its users.

“Our thanks to Val for all you’ve done to resist the slash and burn cuts during Boris Johnson’s lamentable eight years of transport tyranny and for helping get Labour back at the transport helm in City Hall.
