Unanimous Backing For Industrial Action at Arriva Northern

29 March 2019

TSSA has won unanimous backing from members in a ballot among Depot Shift Managers (DSM's) at Arriva Rail Northern in a dispute over excessive workload and unpaid additional tasks.

The results of the ballot showed a one hundred per cent return, with one hundred per cent in favour of strike action and unanimity also on the question of action short of a strike.

The company has been informed and TSSA will now review a proposal made by Arriva last week before taking further steps.

TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes, said: “This is a really strong signal from our members who have had enough. It’s a powerful mandate and we will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to ensure our members’ concerns are quickly addressed.

“Although we are committed to an amicable outcome to the dispute, the company must understand that should they fail to act we will not hesitate to take any action which ensures our members are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“No one wants to move to industrial action and especially not in the run up to the timetable changes due in May, given the utter chaos we had last year at Northern, but the ball is firmly in Arriva’s court.”
