Union Welcomes Review of the Tube Ticket Office Closures

8 September 2016

Responding to the news Mayor of London,Sadiq Khan is to undertake a review of the Tube ticket office closures, TSSA General Secretary, Manuel Cortes said:

"This is a welcome piece of news from our Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan who done what he said he'd do and listened to the concerns of tube workers, unions and passengers and is willing to act to reverse a stupid decision by Boris Johnson.

"The ticket office closures have done nothing to improve passenger services but they have endangered passenger safety by causing dangerous bottle-necking on stations especially at peak times, diminished services - especially for disabled people - and made the tube less user friendly place to travel.

"An increase in numbers of passengers whilst axing the ticket offices and putting customer service staff out on to the platforms has increased stresses on the network and made the tube a less safe-space to work and certainly we have grave concerns about security.

."We look forward to working with Sadiq and London Travelwatch to get the ticket offices re-opened and safety and staffing levels restored."
